New to Sailing – Not a problem

Sailing on the sea is a wonderful experience and if you have never tried before this competition is an ideal opportunity to get the chance at no cost. You will join the yacht or tall ship and be given full training on how to become a useful member of the sailing team. On the sailing trip you will pull the sails up, learn how set the sails from one side to the other in order to make the ship sail.  When the sails are finished with they have to be stowed away and again team work is required to do this.

Going aloft is a voluntary choice but is great fun and full safety training is given before you proceed. Keeping lookout is an important but simple task and there will always be plenty of tasks  for you to do.  Steering , or helming in nautical speech, is either by a wooden tiller on the yachts or by a ships wheel on the tall ship and as in everything else instruction will be given.

Do Something Different

On the water you see the world from a different perspective and you will learn how ships of old plied there trade. Discover the way ropes help the canvas catch the wind and propel the ship through the water without the need for any carbon fuels. Step aboard and the romance begins.

Not on your Own

The great thing about this competition is that you can choose a friend to come with you and share the exciting challenge of sailing, maybe for the first time.
The majority of people on theses voyages have never sailed before so you are all literally “in the same boat”. Meeting new people and making new friends is all part of the fun.

UK Voyages

You can choose from any three day sailing voyage in the UK but even then your voyage may be go across the English Channel to France or the Channel Islands. Please remember that on a sailing trip the exact itinerary cannot be guaranteed due to the weather.
