It is a shame we can't get there by boat, but Classic Sailing directors Adam and Debbie visit the Eden Project regularly because it creatively gets the message accross to everybody that we only have one planet. We are not the only traditional boat skippers that believe the Eden Project has a vital educational role worldwide. The Cape Farewell Project is based on a tall ship in Spitsbergen working in partnership with the Eden Project to showcase schoolchildren and scientists investigating climate change.
Those of us that love the sea like sailors and surfers are often the first to push for change. Campaign group 'Surfers Against Sewage' started in Cornwall. Eve's skippers were two of the first boat operators to get qualified through the Wise Scheme, now a nationwide environmentally friendly code of behaviour for commericial skippers running wildlife trips. Outdoor clothing companies like the award winning Finisterre (run by surfers) are reducing their carbon footprint to a minimum. Windfarms are a common sight in Cornwall, and wave energy is soon to be trialled off the North coast. Green transport intiatives like the Fal River Links provide a network of passenger ferries, boat trips and buses around the Fal and Helford Estuaries, and Cornish walking companies can transport luggage between accommodation.
Classic Sailing get a buzz from living in Cornwall - a County that is really trying to be a world leader in green initiatives. We are keen to make our contribution to a sustainable future: The best thing you can do is sail with us, row ashore with us, swim our blue seas....and leave the car behind for 3-6 days. Its really not that difficult.
