Cornwall - Fresh Food from the Land and Sea

Cornwall has always been lucky in having some of the best fresh sources of fish, seafood, rich dairy farm produce and game on her doorstep, but that doesn't always create a Foodie Heaven at source. It has taken a few years but we think Cornwall is now up there on the world scene for gastro weekend breaks and active holidays fuelled by organic produce from the land and sea.

It took a few famous chefs, a growing tide of entreprenuers and a few Cornish home grown heroes to really turn the food and catering industry around in Cornwall. People like Robert Wing of 'Wing of St Mawes' that finally persuaded Asda in the fishing port of Falmouth to market Cornish Fish, instead of having to export the bulk of his catch to France. TV chef Rick Stein who's fish and chip shop with a difference put Padstow on the map and now no barbeque on the beach is complete without sardines and a Lobster Hatchery releases baby lobster into the sea to feed the next generations with fruits of the sea. Jamie Oliver has a Fifteen Restuarant at Watergate Bay training young Cornish chefs, and they have plenty of examples of good restuants using local produce to emulate.

On our own boat our skippers like to cook. We take advantage of local suppliers like Cusgarne Organics, local fishing boat Celestial Dawn, Cugurrell Farm for crabs and lobster. In October you can see the Falmouth Oyster Boats dredging oysters under sail or oar.

Eve's Skippers Favourite Recipes

An amazing transformation occurs as soon as the anchor is down, transits are checked and Eve is  snug down for the night somewhere. Your skipper turns into a cook. As the best place to prepare food is on Eve's big wooden saloon table it soon turns into an audience participation session with guests taking a lively interest in food preparation ( or sneaking off to watch the sun go down on deck with a glass of wine and a few salty 'nibbles.')

We cook fresh and don't be surprised to see a pot of growing leafy Coriander 'lashed to the mast' down below. If you tell us your dietary requirements we can adapt to most mixes of allergies, food intolerances and pet hates fairly creatively. If it is good weather we often eat al fresco on deck.
