Past Eve Customers - Be Part of Eve's Future

Eve is not for Sale

Pilot Cutter Eve of St Mawes was on the market last year, but we have changed our minds. Eve is so much part of Classic Sailing and our company ethos that we cannot bear to part with her.  We have been planning a bright new future without Eve having to leave the company. Whilst co-founder Adam Purser has retired from skippering Eve, he is still managing director of the company and sailing for pleasure. We now have three skippers 'in house' who are keen to mix the best of Eve's current style of sailing holiday with some new ideas and destinations. Eve has benefited from a major refit and a lot of new kit to equip her for decades more sailing.

Why Eve is So Special

REASON 1 - She is our Flagship to lead by example

Eve really embodies the Classic Sailing ethos of ‘hands on sailing.’ With only a skipper and 6 guests each crew members talents are soon revealed. Contributing to the adventure so intimately makes memorable holidays.

REASON 2 - Exploring ashore is part of an Eve holiday

We commissioned a new 15ft rowing boat in 2012 so our skippers can take the whole crew on forays ashore, but is also safe enough for a bit of independent exploring whilst supper is cooking. Indulge your Poldark fantasies amongst Cornwall’s hidden coves, quays and creeks.

REASON 3 - Eve is Most Manoeuvrable of the Fleet

As our RYA teaching boat, Eve is a great stepping stone to learning skills to go further afield on our bigger tall ships. But we also find sailors down-sizing back to Eve to learn command skills from day skipper to Yachtmaster and take charge of more boat handing than is possible on the larger vessels we work with.

REASON 4 - Eve Skippers Excellent World Travel Guides

The skippers on Eve ‘punch above their weight’ when it comes to knowledge about the sailing world and adventure travel. If you sail with Debbie, Georgia and Thom, we can tell you about opportunities across the Classic Sailing fleet from Greenland to Antarctica.

Reason 5 - More Comfortable and Well Equipped

Eve had a major refit in Winter 2014 so she would be in tip top condition to sell. Now Eve is here to stay  we have also invested in a lot of new equipment so she is ready for the next decade of adventures.

  • Flatter mainsail and better windward performance
  • Thicker new mattresses in 2014
  • New Cooker and three keen cooks who skipper too!
  • New Radar and Chart Plotter with compass feed
  • AIS reciever, active radar target enhancer on X and S band so she can see and be seen by ships.
  • EPIRB - extra to MCA requirements.
  • Sculling oar, lead line and and soon sextant and walker log for keeping trad skills alive.
  • More stowage for guests in forecabin
  • Mobile mini rig speaker for ipods - music

Highlights of NEW 2016 Schedule Out Now

2016 is Brest and Douarnenez Festival are going to be hugely popular and this year there is a significant gap between festivals. French speaking skippers Thom and Georgia and 'Franglais Debbie' are keen to explore further down Biscay Coast.

We are alarmed at the decline in UK based RYA courses in our great tidal waters...and have plans to make our RYA courses a cut above the competition, whilst improving their affordability.

2017 - Our 20th Anniversary for Eve & Classic Sailing

Where shall we go with Eve ? We are thinking Scotland and Round Britain, but it is really about where you would like to see her go that uses Eve's particular talents. Tell us your ideas on Eve of St Mawes Facebook

Cultivating a New Generation of Classic Sailors

Classic Sailing have also set up a bursary fund to reward keen sailors who want to work their way up the RYA qualifications ladder and have the potential and enthusiasm to become 'modern ambassadors' for sailing on traditional boats and tall ships.

In exchange for telling us about their sailing ambitions and writing a blog about their training experiences with Classic Sailing we are offering substantial discounts on our RYA courses at all levels for 6 suitable applicants. We want to be able to follow their sailing career path and where it leads them.

6 applicants will be selected for a Classic Sailing Bursary 2015 and in 2016.
