Autumn Adventures

This is a great time of year to shrug off the impending winter and say yes to an adventure voyage. The weather is often dramatic – sudden showers and strong clear sunshine. The moon is often bright enough to read a book by and the stars are set to maximum twinkle.
There are excellent voyage to choose on Eve of St Mawes, Annabel J, Europa heading to South America and her Antarctica Adventures. Closer to home Stavros Niarchos has the challenge of the Bay of Biscay and voyages to the Canary Islands.

Ocean Voyages
You can sail on Bark Europa this winter either to Antarctica or around South America itself and right up through the Panama Canal. Stavros Niarchos has some winter ocean passages to the Canary Islands, Madeira and the Azores and back to the UK. Dates for the summer of 2010 not yet available but we will send them to you as soon as they are known. Classic Sailing specialise in ‘hands on’ sailing where you are the crew and you become part of the team that works the ship.
The essence of Tall Ship sailing is going aloft to set, hand and work the square sails. Safety training for going aloft is given at the start of the voyage but it is never compulsory. When aloft or on the bowsprit you will be wearing a safety harness. You will form part of a watch taking it in turns to steer the ship, keep lookout and perform other duties. No experience is needed but you will have plenty by the end of the voyage.

Antarctica on Bark Europa - a very special adventure.
The Antarctica Peninsula is truly a vast unspoilt wilderness, teaming in curious wildlife, dazzling glaciers and snowfields, vertical cliffs and ice capped mountains where humans still have yet to tread.
There are many islands with towering rocky pinnacles too steep to catch snow, wide straits where Bark Europa can set square sails for a blast in the frequent strong winds and flat seas, and narrow channels between glaciers tumbling into the sea and mountain ranges dusted with the most tempting and unreachable powder snow in the world.
