Pierce Brosnan not on Eve of St Mawes

Sailing with Pierce Brosnan

“Good morning this is Classic Sailing, Adam here.”
“Hi this is Hotel Tresanton and we are looking for a yacht to take some guests out sailing tomorrow, can you do that for us?”
“Well normally I could but my wife is away so I don’t have any crew and unless you can provide a crew for me it won’t be possible.”
“Hold on a mo….. yes we can provide a kitchen porter, will that do?”
“I expect so, how many people is it for and how much do I get paid”
“Its for three adults and one 2 year old and its our normal rate.”
“OK, if the guests and porter can be on St Mawes Quay at 10am tomorrow. Is that OK and what are the guests called?
“That’s fine, it’s Pierce Brosnan with his partner, two year old son and a nanny.”

Oh that’s me in trouble. No problem about Pierce or the day sail just that when I mentioned who I was sailing with to my wife she said if she had known she would have come home specially! Also my daughters who would have come down from Derbyshire just to be onboard. Also my mother who at 83 still thought she could have helped! So I got it in the neck from my favourite five women.

Anyway it was a nice day and as the tide was out I rowed Pierce Brosnan and family out to Eve of St Mawes in our rowing boat No 8. (Somewhere there is a photo of this.)
We were soon sailing and Pierce very quickly got to grips with helming and sailing Eve and we got to Helford in time to drop the anchor and have lunch. The picnic hamper provided by Hotel Tresanton had enough in it for a party of ten let alone the five adults and one child on board. So we all eat a splendid meal and the skipper had just the one glass of wine.
As we getting ready to leave Pierce asks if he can be back in St Mawes by 4am as he has a helicopter due at six to take him back to London for an evening engagement. Well it’s only an hour earlier than I had planned so we got him back in good time by a surreptitious use of the engine and sails.

Most of the inhabitants of St Mawes new Pierce Brosnan was in town but not everyone new that Roger Moore was also staying at the Idle Rocks so St Mawes had two 007’s at once.

Pierce left a great letter and tip for me to collect from Hotel Tresanton before he went  up to the helicopter landing site. Near where the helicopter landed is a Mencap Home and they new who the chopper was for and turned out to have a look at Pierce Brosnan. Credit to Pierce because he spent quarter of an hour talking to them and signing autographs for them. No publicity, just a confident helpful guy.

So if you want to helm a yacht that’s been helmed by Pierce Brosnan 007 all you need do is coming sailing on Eve of St Mawes.
