Barry in South Wales

Not much more than 120 years ago Barry had a population of 85 souls but with the building of the docks in 1890’s the village rapidly grew into a town of 40,000 people and has remained about there ever since.

The Docks were built for the export of coal to many parts of the world. No major industry has been able to replace this long gone activity. Barry is also famous as the graveyard of steam engines.

Today Barry is still trying to re-invent itself but it does have some attractions for the visitors. It has wonderful views of the Bristol Channel and is close to the Vale and convenient for Cardiff.
The arrival of a tall ship is always keenly anticipated.
