Dover is a historic Cinque Port, one of the five licensed for trade with France established by Edward the Confessor (1042-1066) so coming up for 1000 years in not so long. It still has strategic importance as the largest ferry port to France and Europe and the ancient Dover Castle was built to protect this interest.

Dover’s White Cliffs are world famous and you will see them when you enter or leave Dover Harbour or on sailing through the Straights of Dover.
