Falmouth

Joining or leaving point.

This will depend on where the Harbour Authorities place the vessel. You should normally be given final joining place details about two weeks before the voyage but please be aware it is not always possible to pre reserve a berth in Falmouth.

For smaller vessels like Eve we normally use Falmouth Visitors Yacht Haven which is located in the centre of Falmouth waterfront near Custom House Quay and the Chain Locker Inn. The nearest rail station is Falmouth Town (5 minutes walk).

For Medium size vessels like Bessie Ellen we use either Falmouth Docks or Port Pendennis Marina.

Port Pendennis is the small marina behind the National Maritime Museum Cornwall and the nearest rail station is Falmouth Town (3 mins walk)

Falmouth Docks has its own rail station at the end of the Maritime line from Truro called 'Falmouth Docks'. From here you walk out the station - turn right under the railway bridge and next right is the docks entrance (5 mins walk)

Getting to or from your port.

Train

Train to the Falmouth Town Station which is on the branch line from Truro (or next halt is Falmouth Docks if joining a vessel in the docks). Trains come into Cornwall to Truro from many parts of the UK. http://www.raileasy.co.uk.

Bus and Coach

First Group run a regular service from Truro Bus Station a twenty minute walk from the Railway Station.  http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/southwest/devon/home/index.php Maybe buses to Falmouth at the station but its best to get a rail ticket all the way to Falmouth. You will chabge for the Branch Line at Truro

The A30 is the best route into Cornwall for Falmouth .

The best way is to leave the A30 at Carlands Cross. Then follow the signs to the right for Truro and then Falmouth

Parking

There are short stay car parks at Custom House Quay for the Yacht Haven to drop your bags. Likewise for Port Pendennis there is a short stay car park by the Maritime Museum event square. Once you have dropped your bags you can normally find free parking within ten minutes walk of any harbour point in Falmouth by just parking in local residential streets.

Long stay parking

There is a long stay car park with a daily fee of £@@ (pay and display machine so bring change) off Tinner Walk close to the Falmouth Docks entrance and the RNLI station.  This is a private car park owned by Port Pendennis Marina but you will still be expected to pay - even if the vessel is in the marina.  Please do not risk the free berth holders car park next to the tennis courts.  Council long stay car park is Castle Street at £21 for a week (long walk).

History

Falmouth  has a beautiful Tudor Castle built at King Henry 8th directions to be half of the Castles that protected the Fal from the Spanish, St Mawes Castle is nicer of course.

Joining in Falmouth for Pilot Cutters ONLY.  We will use either Port Pendennis or Falmouth Visitor Yacht Haven depending on availability.
