Portree - Skye

Portree lies on the Sheltered East Coast of Skye and is the major town on Skye. In Gaelic: Port Rìgh, means the King's port. The Skye Bridge has opened up the Island to visitors, don’t worry the numbers are small and the Island is huge, it has more coastline than Cornwall.
Portree’s harbour is fringed by cliffs and the small pier has an excellent fish and chip shop, all the fish is caught locally.

In the town there are galleries and cultural centres to visit, Aros Centre and the An Turin Arts Centre, both of which celebrate the island's Gaelic heritage.

Getting to Portree
By Road – it’s a long way – a full days drive beyond Glasgow.
Head up the A82 from Glasgow and keep going all the way past Loch Lomond and its steam ships. Keep going beyond Fort William until you come to the A87 which takes you all the way to Portree. The Skye Bridge is now free thanks to the Scottish Parliament.

By Coach
CityLink offer connections from Glasgow Buchanan Street train and Bus Station all the way to Portree.

By Train
ScotRail has one of the most scenic rail routes in the world to the Kyle of Lochalsh where you will need to transfer to the bus or coach for the last part of your journey. A delightful way to travel to Portree.
