Ocean Passages and Mile Building

7 tenths of the world's surface is ocean

These longer voyages are ideal adventure sailing holidays for the sailor who enjoys the freedom of the open ocean and the companionship of ship mates sharing a unique floating home. They take longer and travel form one place to another so early planning is essential. Though no experience is required you do need to know you enjoy sailing. We can give travel advice often from first hand experience.

Deep Water Sailing

True ocean sailors happily adapt to a watch routine and the constant motion of the ship day and night. You establish a routine that is relaxing and comfortable but keeps you occupied. Sailing at night with absolutely no light pollution makes the night sky brilliant, see the Milky Way in three dimensions like the strands of a rope. Experience all the ships moods from glassy calms to white capped swells launching flying fish from crest to crest.

"We did plenty of sailing and had great weather. The watch system was great fun and even mess duty was great! I would not hesitate to recommend one of these trips to anyone." Scott Caple

Ocean Wandering in the South Pacific

One for teachers, academics, students, career break adults. There is a very good reason for going to the Southern Hemisphere in the European Summer holidays. An ocean sailing and remote island exploring voyage amongst the South Seas. It might be winter in New Zealand or Sydney, but the sea is always aqua marine and the sun beats down on wooden decks in Fiji, Tonga, Vanuatu, or New Caledonia. Worth travelling to the far side of the world.

North to Southern Hemisphere - Cross The Equator

Three masted barque Europa is sailing from Nova Scotia, Canada to Salvador Brazil, so you can sail down the East coast of America and cross the tropics and the equator with stun'sails and lofty skysails, and Neptune will pay you a visit in this time honoured 'crossing the line' ritual.

Roaring 40's & Albatrosses

A windier ocean passage is to sail from the warmth of Brazil, to the colder waters around the Falklands and Patagonia. Europa will be returning to her Antarctic cruising grounds in October / November 2010, so this voyage South into the Roaring Forties is a more affordable way to see albatrosses than our 3 week Antarctic Peninsula expeditions. Or you could do both whilst you are near Cape Horn !

Sail the Southern Atlantic via Antarctica & South Georgia 2011

A 52 day epic. 5500 miles downwind on a square rigger. Sail from South America to Antarctic Peninsula for your first expedition. Follow in Shackleton's wake from Elephant Island to South Georgia for your second wildlife expedition. Sail a three masted square rigger (Europa) down wind accross 5000 miles of Southern Ocean, Furious Fifties and Roaring Forties to Tristan da Cuhna and Cape Town. Look out for whales and albatross during the crossing. Adventure sailing with the chance of fascinating wild life.

Mile Building Voyages

As our vessels travel around Europe in the summer going from one sailing area to another there often voyages referred to as delivery trips. These provide longer voyages but as they are never far from land there is a good chance for a lot of sail handling and visiting ports on route. The adventure sailing takes on a more local feel with the need to keep a sharp look out for increased traffic at sea.

RYA Log Book

If you are looking to enter lots of sea miles in your RYA log book then these voyages are a good opportunity and for European voyages there is never to far to travel at each end.
