Tall Ships Races 2010

2010 is an exceptional year for unusual Tall Ships Race events and Classic Sailing are offering the chance for individuals to apply to be voyage race crew in South America, Mediterranean, Northern Europe and The Great Lakes in Canada and USA.

No experience is needed but a good level of general fitness is required. Classic Sailing are always actively seeking tall ships events suitable for all ages, however some Tall Ships Races like the Great Lakes may have have quotas on crew aged over 25 as they are organised by sail training organisations and generally aimed at young people to promote international friendship. Ring us for advice.

Great Lakes Tall Ships Challenge Series 2010

From May 2010 Bark Europa will be sailing from Panama Canal to Bermuda and then up the East Coast of America and into the Great Lakes for this major US – Canadian tall ships race. Bark Europa created quite a storm in American ports last year when she visited so we expect these race legs to be very popular.

Bark Europa won a prize for the ship with the most nationalities in the crew in 2009 Trans Atlantic Tall ships Race (and won the Trans Atlantic Challenge 2009 series overall in Tall Ships Class A)

Tall Ships Races in Europe  2010

Schooner Oosterschelde has large fore and aft sails and square sails so she is interesting to race. The voyage race leg from Hartlepool ends in Ijmuiden, Netherlands so it is always nice to be on a competitive Dutch ship when she races to a port in her home country. Oosterschelde is no Spartan sail training trip. She is a historic sailing vessel restored for adult adventure charter and very attractive down below with a bar, large saloon, library and even a piano for those winning crew songs !

Want to sail a tall ship, but not racing ?

We have many tall ship voyages each year from day sails in Auckland or the UK to wildlife expeditions in Antarctica, The Arctic, or somewhere warmer like the South Pacific or Cape Verde. Island hopping and mountain backdrops are some of our favorite destinations from Azores to St Kilda, New Zealand to Corsica.
