If you have the feeling that you are always too busy and would like to spend more time with your son or sons, then this would be a great boys own adventure over a long weekend. Likewise if you have been neglecting your dad now you are working for a living or bringing up your own family then this could be great way to re connect, whilst doing something active. Add the chance to visit a great city like Rotterdam to start your voyage too and you have a perfect package to celebrate a birthday or just treat a loved one.
"There is something about being at sea on a tall ship that makes talking whilst working together seem the most natural thing in the world."
During this four-day sailing voyage, we set sail to the east coast of England. Thisshort trip is a good way to relax and enjoy a few active but care free days on board. This weekend is nice for regular Oosterschelde guest crew, but also a very nice opportunity to be introduced with the ship and to test whether a longer trip would be something you would enjoy. If you are British enjoy the unusual experience of sailing a Dutch ship to see your own country from a different perspective
Oosterschelde and Europa are sailing to Australia and around the world together in 2013, so if you ahve big plans then this might be a good chance to check out the ship and see how you get on with the professional crew and style of sailing.
The ship would normally leave shortly after an introduction to the ship, the crew members and the other guest crew members. The captain will explain all the (safety) rules and will go through the plans for the voyage. Across the ‘Nieuwe Waterweg’ we sail towards the sea. Crew and guest crew will set sail and we head westward for the English coast. Weather, wind and the captain will decide where, when and how long we will stop. Possible destinations are Great Yarmouth, Pinmill, Lowestoft or Ipswich. From there the choice is yours: a long walk, a visit to a museum or a pint in the local pub… the English coast offers
many possibilities! The next day we will visit another village before making the crossover back to Rotterdam.
The North Sea is one of the busiest seas in the world. This makes a voyage like this very interesting. There are many ships around us and there is a lot of work to be done on deck. All guests will take part in the watch system and we ask everyone to participate in navigation, sail handling, lookout, etc. The watch on duty has to be on its spot to make a tack or jibe possible as a give-way manoeuvre. On Sunday the 20th, we will be back in Rotterdam in the late afternoon. If family or friends will pick you up, they are more than welcome on board for coffee. Usually it will be possible for you to show them around.
This description is meant to give you an impression of what a voyage could look like. Depending on wind and weather conditions the travel plan could be altered, however we always try to sail as much as possible.
