Rhea in Turkey

A sailing holiday with Rhea in Turkey is a good guarantee of sun and steady sailing winds and you get to participate in as much of the sailing as you like.

Spectacular Coast
The Turkish Coastline is deeply indented with larger gulfs, tiny bays, tiny fishing villages and hundreds of islands. On the Islands and close ashore are ruins of castles, temples, monasteries and ancient palaces. You will always find a good restaurant or taverna for your evening meal ashore. Eating in Turkey has a very high reputation and you will find they often specialise in locally caught fresh seafood with plenty of other items on the menu.

South west is best
The south west coastline covered in all of Rheas voyages is outstanding for its beauty and variety. As you head out of one scenic bay and sail around the headland another beautiful bay with its own character and charm comes into view.

History
You will be sailing where the Persians, Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs and Ottoman Turks have all been before you. This huge cultural heritage adds greatly to the interest and uniqueness of your sailing holiday.

Experts
Skipper David and mate Penny will help you understand any thing you want to know about sailing Rhea. There expert local knowledge built up over ten years means they know all the best anchorages, restaurants and tavernas to make your voyage truly unique.

Met at Dalaman Airport

Day 1.

Join Rhea at Goçek, about 30 minutes from Dalaman Airport, and spend the night there. Sited at the western end of Fethiye Bay, it is only a few minutes sail to beautiful anchorages and spectacular wooded coastal scenery.  It has been developed from a tiny village with wooden jetty to a sophisticate d port of entry with several marinas.  However, with the exclusion of motor traffic and careful planning, Gocek has maintained a charming atmosphere with some excellent restaurants and shops, plus good yacht services.

Day 2.

Sail and explore Fethiye Bay, on the eastern side of the bay is the large bustling port and market town of Fethiye.  The western side is like a large lagoon with a string of islands providing sheltered, varied and spectacular anchorages.  There are fascinating walks to ancient Lydia from Ruin Bay or visiting a tiny hamlet where the local Imam’s wife makes carpets and she offers her special honey sweetened sage tea.

Day 3.

Sail to Gemiler Adasi (St. Nicholas Island) it is set in beautiful mountain scenery and covered with Byzantine ruins including a church, a covered walkway along the Island’s ridge, mosaics, etc..  Nearby is an anchorage with crystal clear green water due to the freshwater springs and the reflection of the surrounding pine trees.  Ali’s restaurant there is renowned for its roaring barbecue fire, excellent Turkish cuisine and atmosphere.  There is a walk from here to ancient Kaya Koyu, a deserted Greek town with many ruined churches, houses, etc.. Nearby is the famous lagoon of Ölu Deniz.

Day 4.

A sail with the wind east past the seven capes and the seven mile golden sandy beach behind which are the ruins of Xanthos and Patara.  Overnight at or near Kalkan, a small port with a charming steeply sloping village of great character.  It has a relaxed atmosphere, good restaurants and interesting shops for Jewellery, Carpets, etc..

Day 5.

Continue along the coast with the wind Kekova and Kali, famous for its underwater ruins, lagoons and fascinating village headed by a mediaeval castle overlooking the area.  If there is time, another two hours east is Myra, an area of ruins and churches

Day 6.

ail west to Kaş, a small port and market town.  Two miles off Kas is the Greek Island of Kastelerizon which might be visited (depending upon entry restrictions at the time of the charter).  The island is attractive and contrasts in architecture, culture and cuisine - it boasts one restaurant in particular which is superb for fish.  It also has a famous blue cave with indigo blue water where Mediterranean seals are reputed to breed.

Day 7.

Is dependant upon weather conditions, either (a) A long sail west back to Goçek or (b) continue sailing in the Kaş / Kastelerizon and return to Kaş.

Day 8.

Depart from Rhea (if departing from Kaş, a minibus will be provided to transfer back to Dalaman Airport taking about 3 hours or less)
